NarBread

Our Bakers CSB (community supported bankers) (http://ourbakers.com) has been running locally at The
Greeks Next Door for over a month now. Friday nights are a happening time to do some beer tasting and
purchase delicious artisanal craft breads and baked goods. You can also order a 15-week bread share online
and get a 1.5 lb loaf of bread every week. Jerry Sheehan, our partner in our project to start a bakery in which to
employ and train people with disabilities, is there every Friday night between 5 and 7 selling Bavarian
pretzels, foccacia, tomato pie, and breads. Money from the sales is being used to fund our bakery startup costs.
This is a project of New Avenue Foundation (http://newfdn.org) a 501(c)(3) public charity whose mission is to
help create more meaningful lives for people with disabilities.

1.)     Saturday, October 1, 2016 is Narberth’s Oktoberfest Celebration! The party moves to our downtown’s

3.)     Tuesday, October 4, 2016, *Narberth Community Food Bank *
All are Welcome!*

Many thanks to all who volunteer, donate and support the NARBERTH COMMUNITY FOOD BANK to help
end hunger in our community. We also thank the Narberth Community Library for having a receptacle by the
circulation desk for much-needed donations of non-perishable food items to make it easier for library patrons
and other Narberth citizens to drop off donations during library hours (10:00 to 8:00 Monday to Thursday and
10:00 to 5:00 Friday and Saturday). The food bank is always in need of canned chicken/turkey/tuna,
unsweetened hot or cold cereal, granola bars, jelly, canned fruit, popcorn, rice, quinoa, boxed milk and gluten-
free pasta, soups and crackers. A few extra cans or items from your shopping trip makes a difference to help
address the significant need right here in Narberth and Lower Merion. Of course financial support is also
always welcome and donations can be made online through PayPal
https://narberthcommunityfoodbank.org/ Thank you so very much for your support!

4.)     Wednesday, October 5, 2016, National Walk to School Day, October 5th! Belmont Hills school families:
The Narberth-to-Belmont Hills Walk to School Group kicks off its year on National Walk to School
Day, Wednesday, October 5. Are you ready to give up the school bus for a day? (Probably) Can you and your
child walk 2-1/2 miles? (Yes you can) Would you enjoy an early morning wake up adventure and some
intergenerational socialization, complete with a traditional stop at Wawa for hot chocolate? (Who wouldn’t!)
Our group won a Lower Merion Township Green award this year, in recognition of 5 years of monthly walking
to school! Please join the walk to school group at on Wednesday, October 5, at 7:50 AM at the corner of Iona
and Meetinghouse Aves. Please direct questions onto Jim Speer, [email protected] . In case of bad weather
we don’t go.

Invite a friend and join us every Wednesday morning, from 9:30-11:30am at Sabine Playground. Sand & fun

How can gardeners give gardens a sense of "authenticity," embracing their time, place, and culture, while
providing beauty, joy, and satisfaction?  Claire Sawyers, Director of Swarthmore College's famed Scott
Arboretum, draws on her deep educational background and wide experience of gardens here and abroad, to
develop five principles that gardeners everywhere can follow to develop a garden that has connection to their
lives, their landscape, and their traditions, and will present them to the Narberth Area Garden Club
on Thursday, October 6, 2016, 7:15 p.m., at the Narberth Borough Building, 100 Conway Avenue, Narberth,
Pa., 19072, Haverford Ave. entrance.  Visitors, $10. admission.
