Thank you to all who volunteer, donate and support ending hunger in our community.
In order to facilitate donations to the Narberth Food Bank, the Narberth Community Library has become a
Drop Off point for donations. There is a receptacle just inside the library front door, in front of the circulation
desk. We hope this will make it easier for library patrons and other Narberth citizens to drop off much needed
donations at a time that is convenient for them. The library is open from 10:00 to 8:00 - Monday thru
Thursday and 10:00 to 5:00 - Friday and Saturday. www.NarberthCivic.org/news is now publishing a self-
updating notice of items currently needed for donation to the food bank at the Narberth Family Resource
Center. The needs change regularly, and so will this list. I hope this will facilitate more efficient giving. Please
remember the food bank! Even just a few extra cans or items from
a trip makes a difference. There is significant and regular need right here in Lower Merion & Narberth. Check

New Horizons Senior Center, your local community resource for active adults 55 and older, is now located in
the hub of Narberth, at Narberth Borough Hall, 100 Conway Avenue, 2nd Floor. Since 1976, New Horizons
has been providing a wide array of programs and services to appeal to the interests, talents, and desires of local
seniors, keeping them active, engaged, and independent. The Center is open Monday through Friday, from

Volunteers Needed! Become a part of an active network that supports and sustains each other. We’re seeking
volunteers for various positions at New Horizons! Let us know your hobbies, skills and expertise, and we can
structure a volunteer position that suits you. We’re looking for art, history, cooking, music, science, Mah
Jongg instructors, help with mailings, hosts and hostesses and more. Interested volunteers can inquire via

Daily Lunch, Monday through Friday at Noon: New Horizons serves a full course lunch every weekday at
Noonfor adults 60 and over. The meals are planned by a local nutritionist and are catered by Betty the Caterer.
Meals are available to eat-in or take-out, for a suggested donation of $2.00 per meal. This program is

New Horizons newly expanded social work programming is developed by Peter Adels, social work intern at
the Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Programs are devoted to specific need
and topics to provide information, discussion and support for both groups and individuals. All services are
provided without charge, but membership is encouraged and donations are accepted.
--Full Circle Discussion Group--Mondays at 10:30 AM:
Adults 55 and over who no longer work are invited to join other retired seniors in an ongoing discussion about
what to do now that the daily job is done.
--Changing Abilities--Monday, November 24 at 12:30 PM, Wednesdays in December at 9:30 AM:
It is a scary thing to experience the changes that occur in the body and the mind as a person ages. Adults 55
and over are invited to come and share their experiences, and to explore options on how to adjust to these
inevitable changes.
--Men’s Support Group--Thursdays at 11:00 AM: A group exclusive to men 55 and over. Join other males in
discussing the subjects near and dear to your heart.
--Caregivers Support Group--Friday, December 5 at 10:30 AM: It is a very demanding job to be a caregiver
for someone This group lead by Peter Adels is for both seniors and caregivers and is designed to provide a
break and a chance to share with others and feel their support.
--Coping with Loss--Friday, December 5 at 12:30 PM:
The impact of the loss of a loved one is forever and everyone deals with grief differently. This support group
lead by New Horizons Social Worker Peter Adels is for anyone 55 and over dealing with the aftermath of the
loss of a loved one.

a) Walking Club--Fridays at 9:30 AM: Tired of walking alone? Seniors interested in getting fit and meeting
other fun people, can join the New Horizon Walking Club. For Beginner and Intermediate walkers, not a race!
Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Meet at the center at 9:30 AM, weather permitting. Stop by 100

permitting basis, advance registration is requested.
b) Interior Design Workshop—Tuesday, December 2 at 10:30 AM:
Ali Dabbagh is hosting an introductory workshop for adults 55 and over, on December 2 at 10:30 AM, on
using design elements to create a favorable environment in your home. The workshop will run for about an
hour, and cover a number of design implementations. Interested seniors should call 6100 664-2366 to sign-up

c) Author Series: The Empty Net by Dr. Peter Kowey—Wednesday, December 3 at 12:30 PM: Adults 55 and
over are invited to join Main Line Health Cardiologist and Fiction Writer Dr. Peter Kowey at New Horizons
onDecember 3, at 12:30 PM. Dr. Kowey will be discussing his third murder mystery novel, The Empty Net,
and answering questions about his work as a Fiction Writer. Stop by 100 Conway Avenue, 2nd Floor,

d) Cooking Demo: Holiday Appetizers--Friday, December 5 at 12:45 PM: If you are 55 or over and love to
cook—or just love to eat good food—the Center invites you to join other like-minded individuals and witness
the culinary genius of Adrian Seltzer as she teaches participants how to use a few simple ingredients to make
wonderful meals. This month, she will be demonstrating how to make Holiday Appetizers on December 5 at
12:45 PM. The fee is $4 for Members, $6 for Non-Members, and attendee get to partake in what is made!

6.) Sunday, November 30, 2014, November 30, from 12 noon-3pm, the American Legion post in
‪#‎Narberthwill collect these items for homeless vets – they can be new or gently used:
• Daypacks/backpacks
• blankets
• jackets
• water bottles
• hats and gloves
• notebooks and pens
We also need some volunteers to help that day and also some to help deliver to Senator Leach's office on
December 1.
7.) Thursday, December 4, 2014, Pollination and Coevolution: Rewards and Deception
Exploring plant-pollinator relationships through stories of interesting species, John Gruber, Chairman of the
Science Department at Friends' Central School, will focus the Narberth Area Garden Club on an aspect of
botany that is fundamental to understanding the life of a garden. December 4, 2014 at 7:15 p.m., at the
Narberth Borough Building, 100 Conway Avenue, Narberth, Pa., 19072, 2nd floor (Haverford Avenue
entrance). Free for members; $6.00 for non-members.
8.) Saturday, December 6, 2014, Saturday with Santa - Make sure Santa knows what you want for Christmas
this year! Bring the whole family, and spend Saturday morning with Santa onDecember 6, 2014, from 9 to 11
am at the Narberth Presbyterian Church Gymnasium (205 Grayling Ave, Narberth). There'll be kids activities,
donut holes and fruit to nibble on, and beverages (including coffee for the grown-ups). Best of all, you don't
need to go to the mall in order to get some one-on-one time with the big guy. All children will have the
chance to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what they want for Christmas. Parents and grandparents are
encouraged to bring a camera and take pictures. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 for the entire family and can
be purchased online at narberthwomensclub.org. This event is presented by the Junior Women's Community
Club of Narberth and proceeds benefit the Narberth Library, Eldernet and Narberth Girls' Basketball.
9.) Sunday, December 7, 2014, from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM, The Narberth Dickens Festival is the biggest
holiday festival on the Main Line, where downtown Narberth transforms into 1840s London for one December
afternoon every year. The event includes period street vendors and food, caroling, musicians, costumed
performers, puppet shows, dance performances, ice sculpting, carriage rides, and much more. Kids join in the
free scavenger hunt to search for costumed Dickens characters like Scrooge and Tiny Tim, and win a great
prize. Easy access to Septa Regional Rail - 3 stops from 30th St Station on the Paoli/Thorndale line.
The Narberth Dickens Festival will be bigger and better than ever this year. The Narberth Business
Association is bringing back all the crowd favorites, and expanding with new activities and performances as
