sticks) but we’re all winding up (cue Sinatra’s Summer Wind) and heading straight to the busy season next week such
as school starts, dancing for joy in the Staples’ aisle, longer Boro meetings, Narb music and arts festival, Mayor’s
Friday movie nights, just how are they able to set up a beer garden in Narberth Playground, First Fridays and Narberth
sports (flag football-the real NFFL and soccer!)

Holy Trinity, Narberth has installed three raised-bed gardens and is growing fresh vegetables for the Narberth
Community Food Bank, in a collaboration between Triskeles, Food For All and the NCFB. We have had our first
harvests, totaling over 20 pounds of cucumbers, eggplant, and peppers! We have tons of tomatoes almost ready to

Thank you to all who volunteer, donate and support ending hunger in our community.
In order to facilitate donations to the Narberth Food Bank, the Narberth Community Library has become a Drop Off
point for donations. There is a receptacle just inside the library front door, in front of the circulation desk. We hope this
will make it easier for library patrons and other Narberth citizens to drop off much needed donations at a time that is
convenient for them. The library is open from 10:00 to 8:00 - Monday thru Thursday and 10:00 to 5:00 - Friday and
Saturday. www.NarberthCivic.org/news is now publishing a self-updating notice of items currently needed for
donation to the food bank at the Narberth Family Resource Center. The needs change regularly, and so will this list. I
hope this will facilitate more efficient giving. Please remember the food bank! Even just a few extra cans or items from
a trip makes a difference. There is significant and regular need right here in Lower Merion & Narberth. Check out the
article space in the top right hand column of NarberthCivic.org/news under Family Resource Center of Narberth. Thank

5.) Wednesday, September 3, 2014 through the rest of the week. New New Horizons Senior Center, your local
community resource for active adults 55 and older, is now located in the hub of Narberth, at Narberth Borough Hall,
100 Conway Avenue, 2nd Floor. Since 1976, New Horizons has been providing a wide array of programs and
services to appeal to the interests, talents, and desires of local seniors, keeping them active, engaged, and independent.

Volunteers Needed! Become a part of an active network that supports and sustains each other. We’re seeking

adults 60 and over. The meals are planned by a local nutritionist and are catered by Betty the Caterer. Meals are

Over 55 and tired of walking alone? Seniors interested in getting fit and meeting other fun people, can join the New
Horizons Walking Club. For Intermediate walkers, not a race! Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. Meet at

d) Bucket List Discussion Group with Peter Adels--Every other Friday, Starting September 5 @ 10:30 AM: From
skiing down the Alps vs visiting the Great Wall of China to who gets the China Plates, decisions and goals need to be
made in the later years of life. Join New Horizons’ on-site Social Worker Peter Adels every otherFriday as he leads a
discussion group focused on learning how to achieve all our life goals and plans, whether fun or practical, large or

e) “12 Weeks to a Healthier You” Nutrition Class--Starting Monday, September 8 @ 9:15 AM: “12 Weeks to a
Healthier You” is a weekly course starting on Monday, September 8 at 9:15 AM, developed for seniors by the
American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR) that helps seniors learn to increase energy and overall health by eating
smarter and increasing activity. Each week includes an informative presentation, cooking demonstrations, handouts
with how-to steps and tips and recipes.
Eileen Chopnick, registered dietitian-nutritionist, will teach the course and incorporate the AICR recommendations for
cancer prevention, teaching seniors to make dietary changes for lower cancer risk. Advance registration is requested.

f) Full Circle with Peter Adels--Every Monday, startingSeptember 8 @ 10:30 AM: Adults 55 and over are invited to
join New Horizons on-site Social Worker Peter Adels in a discussion and support group every Monday in September
at 10:30 AM for those who are not sure what to do now that they are retired. The group will explore feelings about
topics such as productivity, daily activities during retirement, rest and relaxation, and of course the all-important

g) BINGO at New Horizons! Tuesday, September 9 @ 12:30 PM: New Horizons popular BINGO tournament for
adults 55 and over returns on Tuesday, September 9, at 12:30 PM. Games are 50 cents a card, and you can purchase as
many cards as you wish. And of course, there are prizes. Come and join in the fun! Interested parties can stop by 100

6.) Friday, September 5, 2014 it’s First Friday in the Borough!
Join your friends and neighbors for a night out in Borough. Grab a friend or bring the family downtown to have dinner
in one of our BYOBs or pubs. Shop the stores that stay open late, like Character Development, which always has a
First Friday book special. Find some new treasures and have some wine and cheese at Nannygoat Antiques. Don't
forget to drop by Sweet Mabel, the heart of the First Friday action here in the Borough. They always have a featured
artist of the month, not to mention the funkiest selection of art and gifts on the Main Line.
7.) Thursday, September 18, 2014 through Sunday, September 21, 2014. What happens when the Narberth Music
and Arts Fest and the Sidewalk Sale fall on the same weekend?

8.) Friday, September 19, 2014 it’s Narberth Movie Night! We’ll be showing a movie involving Kermit’s
doppelganger-- “Muppets Most Wanted” beginning at 7:00 P.M. in Narberth Borough Hall, 2nd Floor Big Room 100

9.) Saturday, October 18, 2014-Narberth’s Oktoberfest!!!
The sixth annual Narberth Oktoberfest is Saturday October 18, 2014, from 5 pm to 9pm. This is the fourth year it has
been held under festival tents in Narberth Park. The $40 ticket price includes local beers, live music, and festival food,
including a pig roast, turkey, pretzels, brats & sauerkraut, dessert, and more. Proceeds benefit the Narberth Volunteer
Fire Department and the Narberth Dickens Festival. Get more info by e-mailing info@narberthonline.com.
Is babysitting available?
Yes, but it is limited to the first 50 children of ticket-holders who are pre-registered.
Members of the Narberth Girl Scouts will provide babysitting in the big room at Borough Hall. These teen girls are all
certified babysitters, and they will also have adult supervision. They are raising money for their troop, so please make
an appropriate and generous donation. Kids will play games, have pizza, and watch a family-friendly movie while
parents are around the corner enjoying Oktoberfest. This service is for potty-trained kids 3 and older.
Once you have purchased tickets, please e-mail info@narberthonline.com with:
• parent's name and cell #; and
• children's names and ages.
Can we bring children or babies to the event? How about dogs?
No. We cannot make exceptions to this rule, so please plan accordingly.
Are there any dishes besides Pork and Brats?
We also have turkey and a vegetarian option, as well as a number of side dishes.
Are there any beverages besides beer?
We'll have plenty of beer and bottled water, For the non-beer drinkers, we'll also have some wine available. (And a few
people even brought their own favorite wines last year.)
What if it rains?
The event is rain or shine. These tents are designed to handle some rain, so we should stay dry underneath. We've
actually some rain in past years, and we hardly noticed it.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, if you buy online before the day of the event. Our easy and secure Paypal transactions are available to anyone
with a major credit card. You do not need a PayPal account to use it.
Can I buy advance tickets in person?
You can buy with cash at Sweet Mabel before the day of the event.
Will the event sell out? Can we buy tickets at the door?
This event will probably sell out. If there are any tickets left, they will be available for cash-only at the door. But if you
buy in advance (by October 15) you will receive a free souvenir mug with every ticket.
Can I make a contribution to St. Margaret's School?
The online payment form will give you the option of designating $5 per ticket to St. Margaret's School. Or you can
contact a St. Margaret's School representative to buy an advance ticket in person.
