Friday, September 11, 2015 Edition of NarbNet!

September 11, 2015

Welcome to the Friday, September 11, 2015 Edition of NarbNet!

It’s amazing what a difference a week makes.  From the lazy quiet summer of last week’s “only us crickets
here” in Narberth to this week’s “how to make a Pope hat” (hint: pointy copy paper and tape), gotta get the
kids to school as soon as I’m done dancing at Staples, Movie Night (Guardians of the Galaxy!), Music Festival
(two words: Crab Cakes), NFFL Flag Football (always way better than the NFL), Soccer (Beckham worthy),
just how am I ever going to get to the Harriton Field Hockey game at Penncrest, what is a “Penncrest” and run
back to Quizzo and of course, our Narberth Beer Runners.
Don’t worry, we have you covered.
Enjoy and welcome home.

Fall-cation.
If you plan to do a get away this fall, please let our police know and they will check on your home while
you’re away.  Just stop by the station or drop me an e-mail note at [email protected] and I will let our
officers know you are away and to put your residence on the house check list.

Like clean water?
Narberth Infrastructure work continues through the rest of the summer with the replacement of our water
mains, milling and paving of road surfaces by Aqua.  The Borough is doing its best (based on information
provided by Aqua) to provide advance notice to residents on affected streets and we request that all Narbs in
the Boro be patient and the work will be done soon.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please
do not hesitate to call the Borough office at 610-664-2840 and ask for either Bill Martin or Sean Metrick.
Thank you!

Help the Narberth Lutheran Church!

Here's the plan: 60 volunteers + 2 hours + $5,000 = 20,000 meals.

On Saturday, October 3, Holy Trinity will gather with brothers and sisters at Grace Lutheran Church in the
Mantua neighborhood of Philadelphia to pack 20,000 meals for Grace's food pantry. Each month they serve
thousands of the hungriest people in our city.

We need your help! We're working to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of 20,000 meals. Any size contribution
makes a difference. Each meal costs just 25 cents. $1 can feed 4 families.

You can make a donation by visiting http://www.gofundme.com/phillyhunger. We also have a donation box
on the post outside our church's giving garden, and donation jars set up at local businesses throughout our
town.

If you'd like to serve with us on October 3, we'd love to have you! Transportation and food will be provided. If
you're interested, call (610-664-5503) or email ([email protected]) our church office. Please
share this opportunity with friends and family. All are welcome!

Narberth Community Food Bank Summer update!

Thank you to all who volunteer, donate and support ending hunger in our community. In order to facilitate
donations to the Narberth Food Bank, the Narberth Community Library has become a Drop Off point for
donations.  There is a receptacle just inside the library front door, in front of the circulation desk. We hope this
will make it easier for library patrons and other Narberth citizens to drop off much needed donations at a time
that is convenient for them.  The library is open from 10:00 to 8:00 - Monday thru Thursday and 10:00 to 5:00
- Friday and Saturday.
www.NarberthCivic.org/news is now publishing a self-updating notice of items currently needed for donation
to the food bank at the Narberth Family Resource Center. The needs change regularly, and so will this list. I
hope this will facilitate more efficient giving. Please remember the food bank! Even just a few extra cans or
items from a trip makes a difference. There is significant and regular need right here in Lower Merion &
Narberth. Check out the article space in the top right hand column of NarberthCivic.org/news under Family
Resource Center of Narberth. Thank you for your support!

5.)     Thursday, September 17, 2015, a Pop Up Farmer’s Market in Narberth:      Starting Thursday, September
17th, Mitch Shapiro from Green Zebra Farms will create a "pop-up" Farmer's Market stocked with locally
grown, chemical-free veggies and fruits.  There's are still plenty of Heirloom tomatoes, (GZF specialty), red,
ripe Beefsteak tomatoes, also Fall Lettuces and Greens are coming in.  We'll be busy harvesting our Fingerling
Potatoes, Multi-colored Italian Sweet Peppers and Jalapeños, Butternut Squash, and Green Beans to bring to
Narberth Avenue just opposite Station Square from 2:30 til 6PM.
Green Zebra Farm is located in Delaware County, PA between Media and West Chester.  Mitch also
networks with other chem-free growers locally.  Come out and support local, sustainable agriculture every
week, right here in the Borough!

9.)     Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 7:00 PM, it’s the Narberth Pope Crawl.  One of the most famous people
in the world is staying right down the street from us later this month. The roads could be a mess on Saturday
night - so why drive anywhere? Let’s celebrate the Pope’s visit to the neighborhood Narberth-style - by
sharing a drink with friends while we raise money for a good cause! It's easy. First, pay $5 for our cheap
plastic souvenir cup. Then, stop by any or all three bars in the Narberth “Triangle” see what kind of drink
specials they’ve cooked up for the occasion. All proceeds from the cups go to support the Narberth
Community Food Bank.

10.)    Saturday, October 3, 2015, it’s the Narberth Oktoberfest 2015!

Narberth Oktoberfest 2015 - FAQ

What is it?

The seventh annual Narberth Oktoberfest is Saturday October 3, 2014, from 5 pm to 9pm. This is the fifth year
it has been held under festival tents in Narberth Park. The $45 ticket price includes a souvenir mug, local
beers, live music, and festival food, including a pig roast, turkey, pretzels, brats & sauerkraut, dessert, and
more.  Proceeds benefit the Narberth Volunteer Fire Department and the Narberth Dickens Festival. Get more
info by e-mailing [email protected].

Is babysitting available?
We're confirming that now.  Babysitting is limited to the first 50 children of ticket-holders who are pre-
registered.
Local high school students will provide babysitting in the big room at Borough Hall. These teen girls are all
certified babysitters, and they will also have adult supervision.   They are raising money for group/team
activities, so please make an appropriate and generous donation.  Kids will play games, have pizza, and watch
a family-friendly movie while parents are around the corner enjoying Oktoberfest.  This service is for potty-
trained kids 3 and older.
Once you have purchased tickets, please e-mail [email protected] with:
•       parent's name and cell #; and
•       children's names and ages.
Can we bring children or babies to the event?  How about dogs?
No.  We cannot make exceptions to this rule, so please plan accordingly.

Are there any dishes besides Pork and Brats?
We also have turkey and a vegetarian option, as well as a number of side dishes.

Are there any beverages besides beer?
We'll have plenty of beer and bottled water,  For the non-beer drinkers, we'll also have some wine available.
(And a few people even brought their own favorite wines last year.)

Are there any gluten-free beers?
Yes.

What if it rains?
The event is rain or shine.  These tents are designed to handle some rain, so we should stay dry underneath.
We've actually some rain in past years, and we hardly noticed it.

How do we buy tickets?  Tickets on sale soon!
Click the button on this page to go to the ticket page and pay online.  Our easy and secure Paypal transactions
are available to anyone with a major credit card.  You do not need a PayPal account to use it.

Can I buy tickets in person?
No.  E-mail us if you have a problem purchasing online.

Are there different ticket prices for those who won't be drinking?
All tickets are the same price.  Selling out at full price raises the most money possible for two good causes.
Plus having one price makes things less complicated for our volunteers.

Will the event sell out? Can we buy tickets at the door?
We expect the event to sell out fairly quickly, as it has sold out for the last two years. If there are any tickets
left, we will make an announcement about tickets at the door.

Can I make a contribution to St. Margaret's School?
If you want to, you can.  The St. Margaret's School community helps us sell some of the tickets. Our online
payment form will give you the option of designating $5 per ticket to St. Margaret's School.  Other than this,
all the proceeds from the event go to the Fire Department and the Dickens Festival.
